Wall Ovens

My oven doesn’t work

Check the clock to see if the 'A' or 'Auto' symbol is showing, please refer to the user manual to reset your oven to manual mode.

My oven is not heating up

Check that the oven is set to manual mode and that the temperature and function selector are switched on.

The oven light does not work

The light bulb has blown so you will need to replace it.

The enamel is flaking on the bottom of the oven

This may be caused by using harsh abrasives on the oven and/or using aluminium trays on the bottom of the oven. Use only non-abrasive products to clean the oven. Because there is a concealed bottom element in almost every oven, do not put anything, including aluminium foil, on the bottom of the oven interior.

How do I clean my oven?

When cleaning your oven it is important not to use ammonia-based cleaners. Wash with a clean cloth soaked in warm soapy water, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Be careful not to use excessive water when cleaning your oven in order to avoid water passing through clefts into the back of the appliance. Non-abrasive cleaners can be used to clean cooktops and oven doors although never clean a stainless steel appliance using steel wool or an abrasive cloth, as this will leave fine scratches on the surface, which cannot be removed.

What does Thermoseal technology mean for my cooking compared to a standard oven?

1. Faster Cooking

Heat builds up rapidly as it is efficiently retained within the oven and not lost to the kitshen.

2. Lower Cooking Temperatures

The heat is retained more efficiently, therefore a lower overall temperature is required to achieve the same result as in a standard oven - improving energy consumption.

3. Less Temperature Fluctuation

There is less thermal loss resulting in the thermostat easily maintaining consistent heat, compared to a standard oven with detrimental temperature fluctuations as the thermostat switches on and off to compensate for heat loss and maintain a steady temperature.

4. Shorter Cooking Times

The overall result is faster cooking times and superior results – simply better cooking.

What makes Pyrolytic ovens different?

Smeg’s pyrolytic cleaning function can assist to rid your oven of grease and waste. Pyrolytic cleaning heats the oven interior to between 475°C and 500°C and carbonises food residue to a fine ash that can easily be wiped away with a damp cloth. At such an extreme temperature, the door automatically locks for safety, while radiant heat is produced to no more than 15°C above ambient using an independent cooling fan and quadruple door glazing. Ensure you wipe the glass door clean before activating the pyrolytic cleaning mode. Also, remove all oven accessories to prevent discolouration before activating the pyrolytic cleaning mode.

Cooktops

What is the best way to clean a ceramic or induction cooktop?

Special ceramic hob cleaners are available from any supermarket. It is advisable to clean up any spills on any cooktops as soon as possible after the cooking process as leaving the spill for any length of time can permanently stain the appliance.

What pots can I use on ceramic and induction cooktops?

When using ceramic cooktops the best type of saucepan to use is a flat-based stainless steel saucepan. Do not use copper based or aluminium saucepans as these will leave marks on the surface, which cannot be removed. Enamel and glass saucepans can be used on standard ceramic cooktops, but not on induction cooktops. Aluminium or copper saucepans can only be used if they have a flat stainless steel base. Induction cooktops use an electromagnetic heat source and therefore need a saucepan that is metal. This means that cast iron saucepans or stainless steel saucepans that have ferrous iron content are the only type that can be used.

NOTE: Some saucepans have a small induction symbol on the bottom. Otherwise you can use a strong magnet to check if the saucepan is metal.

Is my cooktop LPG convertible?

Yes, most gas cooktops are LPG gas convertible. In fact most of the cooktops and freestanding ovens come with an LPG gas conversion kit supplied. It is then just a matter of the installer making the conversion on site when the product is commissioned.

How do I clean the gas burners on my gas cooktop?

Hand wash them in warm soapy water.

The cooktop goes out when the knob is released

It could be that the flame failure safety device has activated (if applicable).  Hold down the knob for 5 seconds when lighting the burner to ensure it engages.

Rangehoods

Why do I need a rangehood?

The major benefit of having a rangehood is that they assist in clearing the air of fumes, aromas and steam that are a by-product of the cooking process. They do not clear the air immediately but rather filter the steam rising from the saucepan allowing cleaner, warm air to either be re-circulated back into the kitchen or, via ducting, out to the outside atmosphere (which we recommend).

My rangehood is not working

Check the power is turned on at the wall.

What is the maximum distance of ducting required before efficiency is effected?

Applico recommends a maximum of 3 meters of ducting and no more than 3 bends to ensure maximum efficiency.

My rangehood operates but does not pull the air in

The ducting may be blocked, or has too many bends or is ducted to far out too be effective.

My rangehood is flashing with the 'A' symbol

This means the filters need to be cleaned. Refer to the user manual to reset this once you have cleaned the filters in hot, soapy water.

What does ASC (Advanced Sensor Control) Do?

The Advanced Sensor Control is an automated system capable of managing all the functions of your hood. The air in the kitchen is constantly clean and odour free without any manual intervention. The advanced sensor catches all vapours, smoke and odours caused by the cooking process. ASC detects the vapours from cooking and will control the hood automatically to achieve the exact level of exhaust, for exactly the correct amount of time. No more; no less. In effect, the act of cooking becomes the ON-OFF switch for the hood operation.

Dishwashers

The dishwasher does not drain at the end of the cycle

Check to ensure the drain hose does not have a kink or bend in it.  And  check the filters are clean and that the strainer is clear from food particles.

My dishes are not clean

Check you have not overstacked the dishwasher, or selected the wrong function.  Make sure you use sufficient detergent. Ensure your filters are clean by removing them and cleaning them with a brush. Otherwise you will need to contact an Authorised Service Agent.

My dishwasher is leaking?

There are a number of potential causes of a leaking dishwasher. Check for a door seal that has come away, poor tap connection, pump failure, or a faulty pressure switch. If these checks do not solve the problem, contact an authorised service agent.

What is Smegs Orbital Wash System?

The orbital wash system consists of a double spray arm with a contra-action rotation, which distributes water evenly throughout the dishwasher cavity. The spray arm jets are perfectly shaped to direct water with precision, ensuring an excellent quality of wash and a greatly reduced noise level. This means that 86% of the water in the dishwasher is active unlike other machines where it is common for only 50% of the water to be active.

Fridges

The fridge is not working

Check the power plug is plugged in, check the socket is live.

My fridge is noisy and/or vibrates

If you hear a slight hum this is the fan motor and moving air. When a fridge stops running, you may hear gurgling noises in the pipes for a few minutes, which is normal.  You may also hear the defrost water running into the defrost water pan.

The doors do not open and close properly

Check you have not overstacked the fridge and that the food packages are not obstructing the door. Also check the door seals are not dirty, sticky, or coming away from around the door.

The temperature inside the fridge is too cold and is freezing fresh food

The thermostat is set too low. Set the thermostat to a higher setting.

Moisture is building up

Check the air flow vents inside the compartment are not blocked, as this prevents the circulation of air. Moisture build-up could also be due to the fridge door being opened too frequently.
